Your word is everything.
If you want to have boundaries for behavior in your classroom then there must be consequences when those boundaries are crossed.
How many teachers have great intentions for rules and consequences at the beginning of the year and only to let them slide as the year goes on?
This is a bad idea.
You may not even realize it, but your students are constantly sizing you up. Making too mistakes? Getting sloppy with your grading? Not keeping promises? They notice it all. This includes noticing how consistent you are with keeping your word.
Follow through with the consequences you promised, or at the very least make a change in your system.
Unenforced consequences make you look weak.
